Our visits to Agia Galini, Crete are always very pleasant, but this year it was made even more pleasurable by our stay at Hotel Rea, a charming family-run hotel a stone’s throw from the harbour in the village. Our room was very clean and comfortable with bed-sheets and towels changed daily; the air-conditioning was very efficient and we even had fresh flowers, changed frequently, in the room! Breakfast times were very flexible: 08:30 to 11ish, which was ideal for us as some days we wanted an early start to explore Crete in our hire-car, and other mornings we needed sleep-ins owing to extremely late nights in the village. Breakfast was an impressive array of meat, cheese, fresh bread, yoghurt, honey, spreads, fresh fruits, proper coffee, fresh orange juice, egg – boiled or scrambled; and even though we had particular dietary requirements, our hosts were very happy to accommodate. Most mornings my wife was presented with a fresh jasmine flower or rose from the garden. All manner of extra delights appeared during our stay, for example: our hosts discovered, one morning, that it was my wife’s birthday and, at short notice, served her a delicious fresh cream birthday cake complete with a candle and rousing chorus of ‘Happy Birthday to You’. Essentially, we were treated more as guests of Ursula and Babis and their charming family rather than clients of the hotel. Leaving for Iraklion Airport was quite a wrench and we can’t wait to see them again next June. Malcolm and Kath Laws Bradford, West Yorkshire.

Good position, breakfast really great!
The bathroom was really small and old, without any window and the shower did not have any curtain so everything was getting wet.
